My Fixie
I am not a big fan of cars in the city. I can get almost anywhere in Copenhagne on my bike in around 15 minutes, so why should I need a car in the city. I usually buy old, used bikes from dba.dk or fleemarkets and fix them up for a cheap price. Bikes has a way of getting stolen in Cph, so it is not worth spending to much money on your bike. Unless you buy a big chain lock, so you can lock you bike to a pole of some sort.
I have always had a passion for clean looking bikes, so while my currently old bike is being on its last leg, it was obvious to build a fixed wheel bike. I got the frame for 600 DKK on dba.dk and when I got it home it looked like this. The rear wheel was missing a tube and the brakes did not work.
First thing I did was to remove the gear cables and the gear switchers. Then I took off the hand brakes and the cables. It is probably hard to see on the pictures, but there was lots of "Centurian" stickers on the frame, which I removed with a razor blade and some alcohol. Unfortunately the stickers where so old that they left a vague fade on the frame, but for now it is alright.
Then I bought a White Rodi Ariline rear wheel with cog wheel for 1000 DKK. I bought it at Track Bike Shop which is located at Ryesgade 30C 2200 Kbh. N. They have everything for fixed bikes.
A couple of months ago I bought two Vittoria Rubino Intrepid 23 mm yellow and black tires from bikebuster.dk, which was intended for my racing bike, but now a used one of them on my fixie. It now looks like this.
Next thing to do is to get a white saddle and maybe white handlebars. I have also looked at an orange front wheel at Track Bike Shop which was really cool and would look great for the bike, but the price was around 2200 DKK so that must wait.
